Junior South Region Success

Congratulations to the Under 16's who won the Berkshire Under16 league in order to qualify for the South Region.  The Under 14's finished 3rd in their group in Bekshire and will go to play offs on January 7th to confirm their spot.

Good Luck!

Sonia Mkoloma coaches Eagles players...

England Defender and Ex-Captain, Sonia Mkoloma visited Eagles to run two intensive defensive sessions on the 16th November. Both junior and senior Eagles really benefitted from the high intensity training and we look forward to welcoming Sonia back again when she returns from Australia where she plays for the Sydney Swifts in the ANZ League

SECOND HAND KIT

The club has bought back a large number of junior match skirts and tops over the summer through the kit recycling scheme. We are still short of stock in size 6-8 so, if any of you have a set tucked away at the back of a cupboard somewhere, please bring it to training next week and we will buy it off you.

Demand for second hand kit generally is strong. So for all other sizes of skirts and tops and for all other kit which is current and in good condition, we are introducing a more comprehensive second hand sale and purchase process whereby we will endeavour to sell kit on your behalf and give you a share of the sale proceeds.

If you have any kit you would like me to sell on for you, please bring your items to training marked with a name and contact details and give either direct to Emma Nichol (or via my children - Laura in u16s and Sophie in u12s) or your coach. The items will be priced at my discretion but taking into account the price when new and current condition. I will let kit purchasers know of any second hand options when I receive orders and, if and when an item is sold, the club will pass the payment  onto you less a 10% handling charge which will be kept by the club to help towards the cost of maintaining kit stocks. If an item remains unsold for more than 12 months or ceases to be current kit, the club reserves the right to dispose of or donate it to charity.

Just to add that I now have new stock in all sizes of training tshirts, hoodies, tracksuit jackets and trousers and plenty of Eagles sports bottles at £4 each so please email me if you need anything.

Nationals Success

Under 16's........

After a long and gruelling weekend of netball in Sheffield, we are thrilled to announce that our Under 16 squad placed 12th in the country. For a small club like Eagles, to produce a team of such high quality is a real achievement and we are all extremely proud of their efforts. The squad represented Eagles with distinction, facing clubs from across the country in some very tense matches. All of the games were very tight, highlighting how closely matched the teams were; the quality of netball was high and very entertaining. The title was eventually taken by Oldham but could have easily gone to any of the teams represented during the weekend.

I think I'm safe in saying that although the girls may have been a little disappointed not to have turned some close games into victories, they all enjoyed the weekend and the very intense competition they faced. It's great for the girls to be pushed to the absolute maximum of their potential, to see what they are capable of, which unfortunately is something we can't do on a regular basis in Berkshire.

A huge congratulations to all the girls.....Beth Davies (Captain), Beth Nichol, Ellie Ward, Maddie and Freya Russell, Sophie Norton, Rebecca Tillman, Alice Kissane, Nicole Swaffield and Natalie Kirkham.

Thank you to everyone who helped out on the weekend, especially Emma Nichol (resident lunch lady & scorer), Karen Ward (scorer), Sofia Simmons ( No 1 team supporter) and the coaching team, Maria, Neil, Kat and Kirsty. Thanks also to all the parents for their fantastic support and very vocal cheering.

We now look forward to this weekends Under 14 National Competition and I'm sure you'll all wish our Under 14's the best of luck in Loughborough.

Under 14's........

Our u14 squad travelled to Loughborough at the weekend to compete in the National Netball Finals for their age group. The final 18 teams are placed into groups of 6 for the first day. In our group were Turnford, Tameside, Telstars, Barr Beacon and Cliftonettes Royal, on paper this looked to be a tough group and, as the weekend progressed, it proved to be significant in the final placings. A good opening win against Barr Beacon was followed by two tough matches against Turnford and Tameside, the girls competed well and at half time in both matches, although behind, they were still in a position to get a positive result. However, both matches ended with defeat but neither were easy victories for our opposition. The matches against Telstars and Cliftonettes Royal provided two more comfortable wins, which meant a third place finish in the group and on Sunday the girls would be playing for 7th to 12th place.

The first game on Sunday morning was against Oaksway and after opening up a commanding lead we let Oaksway get rather too close towards the end but a 15-12 win was good enough. Hull Chevrons were our next opponents and this proved to be a comfortable 13-3 win. Results from other groups on the Sunday meant we would be playing Telstars again, to finish in either 7th or 8th. It was a very exciting and tense game, Telstars were obviously after revenge following Saturday’s result; for most of the second half there was only one goal separating the teams and with the score at 13-12 to Telstars we had the ball in the shooters hands under the post, but the Telstars player of the match, the umpire on the far side, gave what can only be described as the most dubious footwork decision in the history of the game, which was quite a feat considering she had missed almost every other decision over the past two weekends (but I’m not bitter). Anyway, the final score was 13-12 to Telstars and a creditable 8th place finish for Eagles u14’s.

The 8th place finish was greatly enhanced by the fact that the overall final was between Turnford and Tameside, they had beaten both other group winners and runners up quite comfortably to make the final and our matches against them were much closer than most of their other victories.

Well done to all the girls that played, for their hard work and excellent play throughout the season and during the weekend, I am sure there were some aching bodies on Monday morning. The squad was – Alana John (captain), Laura Nichol, Lydia Webster, Jaya Chawla, Isobel McHattie, Isabel Heaven, Maddy Parnell, Ellie Peel, Fay Carmichael and Lauren Douglas.
